Ivory Coast

Ivory Coast Ivory Coast is located in West Africa on the Gulf of Guinea. To the north of the country is plateau and savannah, while to the south are low undulating plains and thick rain forest that eventually turn to sandbars and lagoons on the coast. Temperatures are high and rainfall is heavier in the south.

Ivory Coast is among the world's largest producers and exporters of coffee, cocoa beans, and palm oil. Consequently, the economy is highly sensitive to both fluctuations in international prices for these products and to weather conditions. Despite government attempts to diversify the economy, it is still overly dependent on agriculture which involves roughly 68% of the population. Close ties with France and the development of the cocoa industry has made Ivory Coast one of the most prosperous of the tropical African states. Agricultural products (including cotton and timber) are the main exports. Gold and diamonds are mined and some oil is produced offshore.
