Kenya
Sprawled along the Indian Ocean, Kenya is the natural hub of trade and commerce in East Africa. Beyond the golden coastal plains, the land rises steeply to plateau interrupted by volcanic mountains. The Great Rift Valley runs northwest of Nairobi to Lake Turkana. The majority of the population live in central Kenya. Conditions are tropical on the coast, semi-desert in the north, and savannah in the south. Agricultural products – predominantly tea and coffee, provide half of Kenya’s export earnings. Light industry is important. Tourism is the main foreign exchange earner, while oil refinement and re-exports for landlocked neighbours are others. 
Coffee is grown primarily around Mt. Kenya, not far from the capital Nairobi. Kenya has two distinct rainy seasons: from April – June are the short rains which produce the “fly crop”, and from October – December are the main rains, which produce the “main crop”.
